Fomo is a "social-first" crypto trading app that lets you trade memecoins, altcoins, stablecoins, and (outside the US) perpetual futures — all from a non-custodial wallet you control. It's backed by serious money: a Series B, $75M led by Index Ventures at a $550M valuation, with Union Square Ventures and Benchmark also participating, bringing total disclosed funding to roughly ~$94M. This review covers how it works, what it costs, and where it falls short.

What is Fomo?
Fomo positions itself as a social trading app rather than a traditional exchange interface — feeds, leaderboards, and a fast "browse and trade" flow are central to the experience. Under the hood, it's non-custodial: Fomo uses Shamir's Secret Sharing to split your private key across systems so that, in the company's own words, "Fomo cannot move your assets." Your funds sit in a wallet only you control, not in a company-held account.
What can you trade?
Spot markets — memecoins, altcoins, and stablecoins — across Solana (the primary venue), Base, BNB Chain, and Monad. Perpetual futures are available through an integration with Hyperliquid, but not for US users — Fomo hasn't obtained the domestic registrations needed to offer leveraged derivatives in the United States, even though its core spot trading is available nationwide.

Leaderboard & Copy-Trading
Fomo ranks traders by realized PnL (24H/7D/30D/all-time), and it's more transparent than most "social trading" features usually are: tap into any token's page and there's a Holders/Swaps table showing every trader with a position — their size, PnL, and average entry price, shown as the market cap at the time they bought in.

Go one step further and tap a specific trader's position on a specific token, and you get their exact entry point plotted on the price chart, a full transaction log, and any "Thesis" notes they posted explaining the trade. You can also follow individual traders to filter the feed and holder tables down to just the people you're paying attention to.
This is genuinely useful for judging whether a trader's track record is real before following their calls — but the leaderboard only shows winners, and past performance doesn't carry over to your own entry price.
Fees
Spot trades cost roughly 0.5% per trade before any discount. Perpetuals carry a 0.05%-per-side Fomo fee on top of the underlying venue's own fees (e.g., Hyperliquid's), which roughly doubles the direct cost of trading perps compared to spot. See our full fees breakdown for a worked example, including how a referral code changes the math.
Is Fomo safe?
Two separate questions matter here. Technically: as a non-custodial app, Fomo can't unilaterally move or freeze your funds, which removes one category of risk (an exchange collapsing with your deposits) but adds another — there's no company safety net if you lose access to your wallet or get caught in a memecoin that collapses to zero. Legally: in March 2026, the SEC and CFTC jointly clarified that non-custodial wallet interfaces like Fomo's don't require broker-dealer registration, creating a specific exemption category ("Covered User Interface Provider") that gave the model real regulatory footing in the US.
What we liked
- Genuinely fast to go from “open app” to “in a trade” — the onboarding friction other apps have is mostly gone.
- Non-custodial architecture backed by real regulatory clarity, not just a marketing claim.
- Multi-chain support (Solana, Base, BNB Chain, Monad) in one interface.
What to watch out for
- No deposit protection — self-custody means no recovery mechanism if you lose wallet access.
- Some users report trades that execute easily on the buy side but are harder to exit on thin-liquidity tokens.
- The social feed and leaderboard format is built to prompt fast action, which isn't ideal if you're prone to impulsive trading — memecoin positions can go to zero.
- Fee structure isn't obvious until you dig — see our fees page for the real numbers.

Bottom line
Fomo is a legitimate, well-funded app with a genuine non-custodial architecture and unusually clear regulatory footing for its category — not the kind of thing you'd normally have to ask "is this a scam?" about. The real risks are the ones inherent to memecoin and perp trading generally, not to Fomo specifically.
